Machines need proactive care to minimize failure and maintain optimum performance. Desktops, workstations, laptops, and servers are no different. They will begin to run more slowly and develop problems over time without proper care. In most cases, these problems can be resolved or even prevented with annual maintenance and performance optimization. Aging systems or systems under heavy use may need this service more often.

Maintenance and Performance Optimization Process:

  • Perform an initial assessment of the computer system.
  • Collect and analyze system reports (i.e. system logs, dump files, etc.). Review any system history and recently installed programs.
  • Perform applicable diagnostics and testing based on system reports and presenting symptoms and repair any reported errors.
  • Verify that Windows Update is working properly [or any other OS]. If not working properly, take necessary action.
  • Fix any bios issues that can cause boot issues.
  • Run hard drive disk check and memory check.
  • Run low-level virus and spyware scan to check for obvious infections.
  • Take necessary actions to resolve system issues. As this time, it may be determined that additional authorization is needed and client will be contacted.
  • Verify that Windows is fully up-to-date with critical updates [or any other OS]. Perform updates as needed.
  • Verify that all high-risk applications are up-to-date [JAVA, Flash, Adobe Reader, etc.]. Perform updates as needed.
  • Verify that licensed antivirus software is running on system and is up-to-date. Perform updates as needed. If no licensed antivirus is present client will be contacted for authorization to install one.
  • Perform visual inspection of system components and verify that system is registering configuration accurately.
  • Remove dust from system components and fans for better performance and cooling.
  • Remove obsolete applications and drivers.
  • Remove unwanted programs and junk that slow down system
  • Remove unnecessary temporary files that use valuable hard drive space
  • Disable non-essential services and processes.
  • Review and optimize space reserved for various system settings
  • Defrag system hard drive for performance optimization.
  • Provide a summary of services performed and confirmation of completed work.
